From the Pastor's Desk - October 5, 2014

Dear Parishioners,
This weekend is the kickoff for the Ignite the Faith Archdiocesan capital campaign and for our Blessed and Thankful capital campaign for our parish. As I have explained at the Masses this weekend, I am inviting all of our parishioners to participate in this combined campaign. This week a letter from me will be mailed out to all registered parishioners asking that each household first pray to discern what Our Lord is calling each to contribute to this campaign. While a frame of reference as to a range for a possible pledge amount will be given if someone has not already indicated during the feasibility study an amount, the important thing is that we pray to know what the sacrifice of treasure is that is an expression of thankfulness for our Lord’s blessings. Whatever is pledged can be fulfilled over a three-year period or longer according to what time period is necessary for each household.
As I have expressed in the past, Archbishop Lucas asked me to make a pledge of $7500 to the campaign to be fulfilled over a five year period. I was originally planning on a$5000 pledge but as I prayed about it, I discerned Our Lord calling me to pledge what the Archbishop asked as a sign of my gratitude for His blessings, which one of these blessings is being the pastor of the wonderful parish of St. Joseph Parish. My pledge is indeed a sacrifice for me that I am making on top of what I already do for stewardship. Saying yes to what the Archbishop asked me to pledge means that I personally will not be able to do some things for which I would have otherwise used this money. I ask you to make your decision in a like fashion as well.
Finally, as noted in the letter, a fellow-parishioner campaign team member will be contacting you requesting a visit with you at which time you will receive a pledge card to fill out. Since the primary focus of the campaign for our parish needs is to reduce the amount that we have left to pay on the loan for constructing our new Religious Education Center, I ask that, if you have not yet toured the new building, to meet with the campaign team member here at the parish for a tour. One of the young father’s waiting in the entry area to pick up his child this last Wednesday remarked about the new building as to how it is benefitting our children: “This is a wonderful investment,” he said. I hope that you can see likewise the value of what we have done for the faith formation of our children as well as for parishioners of all ages to have such a facility dedicated to having a suitable environment in which to learn about our Catholic Faith.
So, I thank you in advance for whatever you discern and decide in regards to your sacrifice for the campaign. May Our Lord bless you abundantly for your generosity!
Have a wonderful and grace-filled week.
God bless you, Fr. Gutowski
