From the Pastor's Desk - September 28, 2014

Dear Parishioners,
On Sunday, October 5, the Extraordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops addressing The Pastoral Challenges of the Family in the Context of Evangelization will commence in Rome. The Holy Father has announced a universal Day of Prayer on Sunday, September 28. Here is a prayer composed by Pope Francis that we are encouraged to pray:

“Jesus, Mary and Joseph, in you we contemplate the splendor of true love, to you we turn with trust.

“Holy Family of Nazareth, grant that our families too may be places of communion and prayer, authentic schools of the Gospel and small domestic churches.

“Holy Family of Nazareth, may families never again experience violence, rejection and division: may all who have been hurt or scandalized find ready comfort and healing.

"Holy Family of Nazareth, may the approaching Synod of Bishopsmake us once more mindful of the sacredness and inviolability of the family, and its beauty in God’s plan.

"Jesus, Mary and Joseph, graciously hear our prayer. Amen."

October is Respect Life Month as well as the Month of the Rosary. Let us all pray for respect for life by praying the Rosary during October. Next Sunday, from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. the annual Life Chain will take place at Highway 50 and Platteview Road. I encourage all to come and pray silently for this hour of peaceful witness to the sanctity of life.

Have a blessed and grace-filled week.

God bless you, Fr. Gutowski
