From the Pastor's Desk - August 22, 2014

Dear Parishioners, Just another reminder that Archbishop Lucas will be here next Sunday, August 31, to celebrate the 9:00 A.M. Mass and then, following Mass, will bless our new Religious Education Center building. The dedication and blessing ceremony should thus start at about 10:00 A.M. It will take place outside in front of the entrance to the RE Center. The Gospel of Life statue of our Lady that our Knights of Columbus Council donated and installed on the north side of the social hall will also be blessed by the Archbishop as will the Jesus with the Children statue (donated by Delores Kreifels in memory of her late husband Al) in the entry area to the RE Center be blessed. From 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M., we will be having a community open house for anyone who wants to tour our buildings and see the changes that have taken place the last three years. If you would like help give tours, please contact me this week at 402-253-2889 or email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . As has already been announced, the start of the Archdiocesan Ignite the Faith Capital Campaign will be beginning in September, which will benefit our parish since the funds raised beyond the Archdiocesan goal (which our parish reached in the silent phase of the campaign last spring) will go to our parish, which we will be able to use for paying down the loan on the new RE Center building. There will be materials being mailed out soon that will keep you informed and that will describe the Campaign. On another note, I attended the pastors’ meeting this week for the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal, which all pastors are required to attend, and was informed that the Annual Appeal will be concurrent with the Ignite the Faith Campaign this fall. I know that it all sounds confusing but I will try to explain it all as best I can when the pledge cards are mailed out in September. For now, I ask you to pray about what the Lord is calling you to make as a sacrifice for the Campaign as well as for the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal. For example, for myself, after praying about this, I discerned that the Lord was calling me to make a sacrifice in thanksgiving for all His blessings, which benefits both the Archdiocese and our parish. To this end, I have already pledged $7500 to the Ignite the Faith Campaign and will give another $250 each year to the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal. Of course, as my regular stewardship, I continue to donate to the parish the reimbursement that is due me for business mileage as well as a partial amount of the reimbursement that is due me for food according to what the Archdiocese directs parishes are to provide in compensation to priests. So, I ask you to discern in prayer as to how you will continue to respond to our Lord’s call to stewardship in regards to your regular contributions for the daily operation of the parish and in regards to your special contributions to the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal and the Ignite the Faith Archdiocesan Campaign. Have a blessed and grace-filled week. God bless you, Fr. Gutowski
