From the Pastor's Desk - May 26, 2014

Dear Parishioners,
Please note that this coming Thursday, May 29, is the Feast of the Ascension, which is a holy day of obligation. Masses will be at 6:00 PM on Wednesday evening and at 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM on Thursday.
Regarding the upcoming Archdiocesan capital campaign, “Ignite the Faith,” the parish and finance councils have agreed that it would be good to do a parish portion in regards to it. Hence we would seek to raise a yet undetermined amount above our goal set for the amount that goes to the Archdiocese. As I have already announced previously in my column, in the silent phase of the Archdiocesan campaign the amount already pledged by parishioners makes it advantageous for us to do a parish portion, which would be applied towards the paying off of the debt for the new Religious Education Center building.   Several other parishes in the Archdiocese have also decided to do a parish portion and have hired the Steier Group, which is the fundraising group running the campaign for the Archdiocese, to assist in doing the steps necessary for a parish portion, so we will do likewise. I am waiting to obtain from the Steier Group the details of all the steps involved, so as I receive more information from them, the parish will be informed of these.  To put things in a nutshell, we have the opportunity to formalize the encouragement for contributions to the parish building fund that has been taking place in a casual manner thus far, something that the structure of the Archdiocesan campaign will allow us to do, which will be of benefit to our parish.
Finally, I  congratulate Jim Hrabik, one of our parishioners, whose daughter Shari McWilliams is the 2014 recipient of the Alice Buffet Outstanding Teacher Award in the area of special education. Shari teaches at Benson West Elementary in Omaha. Of course, I congratulate Shari, too, who often attends Mass with her father here at St. Joseph.
Have a wonderful Memorial Day holiday and a grace-filled week.
God bless you,   Fr. Gutowski
