From the Pastor's Desk - November 3, 2013

Dear Parishioners,
Since November is the month in which the Church traditionally remembers in a special way the souls of the faithful departed, the book in which the names of our deceased parishioners and loved ones are inscribed will be present on the altar this month. In the entrance area of the church, a list of the names of those already enrolled in our parish book of the deceased is provided for you to check to see whether a deceased loved one’s name has already been placed in the book. If there are any names of deceased loved ones that you want added that are not yet on the list, please write these names on the sheets provided in the entrance area of the church. Also, if you were not able to be present on Saturday morning, November 2, for the special Mass remembering all of our deceased parishioners and were not able to take the votive candle that was lit for a loved one, these can be found on the credenza in the entry area of the church for you to take home. So, during the month of November, let us especially keep in our prayers all our deceased loved ones and the souls of all the faithful departed.
Regarding another event happening during November, the National Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima, which was blessed in Fatima for the United States, will be brought to several parishes of the Archdiocese of Omaha. Our parish is privileged to be one of the parishes that was asked to host this special image of our Lady of Fatima. This statue will be present here at St. Joseph from early evening on Sunday, November 10, until 6:00 P.M. on Monday evening, November 11. On Sunday evening, November 10, at 7:00 P.M. there will be a holy hour with the praying of the Rosary as well as after the 8:00 A.M. Mass on Monday morning, November 11. For the remainder of the day on November 11, I encourage persons to come and spend time in prayer in the presence of this special statue to pray for our world, nation, the Church, and our parish as well as for any personal needs. As we welcome this image of Our Lady of Fatima, it is an opportunity to pray for growth in faith that has been the ongoing focus of the Year of Faith that the Church has been celebrating since last October and that will end the last Sunday of this month of November in which we now are. There will be sign-up sheets in the entrance of the church for persons to sign up for a time to come and pray. Ideally, there would always be someone in church throughout the day on Monday, so I hope that those who are able will sign up for a time slot. This can be a wonderful way to observe the Year of Faith, if you have not participated in any special activity of prayer during the Year of Faith.
Have a blessed and grace-filled week.
God bless you,   Fr. Gutowski
