From the Pastor's Desk - August 18, 2013

Dear Parishioners,

As we begin a new school year of religious education, we will begin the year with a Mass at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, August 21. I pray that all parents and children in our religious education program will attend. Since the Mass and the Holy Eucharist is the very core of our life as followers of Jesus there is no better way to begin this year.

Please note the insert in this weekend’s bulletin that contains the opportunities for adult faith formation this coming school year here at St. Joseph. I encourage all of our adults to choose at least one of these programs for the enrichment of their faith and spiritual life. We are still celebrating the Year of Faith until the end of November. As I challenged all of the adults in our parish at the beginning of the Year of Faith to participate in something special during the year, do not let this time of special graces slip by and miss out on growing in the love and knowledge of our Catholic Faith. Please sign up on the sheets provided on the credenza in the entry area of the church so that I can get the needed materials for each program.

Finally, in regards to religious education, the parish and finance councils continue to do the work of getting things in place for the building of the religious education building. We received the bids from contractors this past week and chose two of these for the architect to go back and ask some questions of clarification. Once we have the answers to our questions, we will let you know which bid is the best overall and provide pertinent information on the project. The Springfield Planning Commission and City Council have approved these past couple of months what was necessary thus far to obtain in regards to the building plans from public agencies. Hence, we are inching closer and closer to being able to supply to you final details. Please keep praying for the success of the project and thank you for your patience.

Have a blessed and grace-filled week.

God bless you, Fr. Gutowski
