From the Pastor's Desk - March 3, 2013

Dear Parishioners,
With Pope Benedict stepping down this last Thursday as the Supreme Pontiff, during this time that we await the election of the new pope, we are encouraged to pray for the Church and for whomever will be chosen to succeed to the Chair of St. Peter.  The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has provided the following prayer for us to pray during this time, which it is to be hoped that we will all join in praying:
O God, eternal shepherd,
who govern your flock with
unfailing care, grant in your boundless
fatherly love a pastor for your Church
who will please you by his holiness
and to us show watchful care.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ,
your Son, who lives and reigns with
you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.

Also, remember that on this coming Wednesday evening, the intention of the 6:00 PM Mass will be for the election of the new pope and the prayers of the Mass will be a special set of prayers used for such an occasion. I hope that many will come to join in this time of special prayer. In the bulletin this week there is an insert explaining how the new pope is chosen.

This week, from Thursday until Sunday, I have to be in Baltimore for the bi-annual meeting of the National Advisory Council of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. So, please pray for me and all of  the members as we provide input to our bishops of the United States on various issues facing the Church in America at this time. As usual, priests from Mt. Michael Abby will be here for Masses and, for “The Light is On” confession period from 5:30 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 7, Msgr. Frank Kubart will be here to hear these.

Have a grace-filled week.

God bless,
Fr. Gutowski
