From the Pastor's Desk - February 5, 2012

Dear Parishioners,
We rejoice this weekend that we are now able once again to celebrate Mass in the church. We thank the Lord for our newly renovated church. We praise the Lord for the generosity of those who donated towards the renovation. Of course, a thank you goes out to all of you whose support of the parish through the years also made the renovation possible. Please see the insert in the bulletin that outlines the adjustments in etiquette that will be necessary in the newly renovated church, which are a repeat from my column in last week's bulletin. As soon as it is possible, a booklet outlining the features of the renovation and with pictures will be put together and made available as a remembrance of this event in the history of the parish.

Also please see in the bulletin the insert of the letter from Archbishop Lucas in regards to the federal Department of Health and Human Services mandate that religious institutions will not be exempt from having directly to provide and without cost in their health insurance plans access to contraceptives and sterilization for all employees. We need to be dedicated to praying that this disregard for the religious liberty that is inscribed into our U.S. Constitution will not be carried out by the Obama administration. We need to pray that this unjust law that contravenes God’s moral law be rescinded either by the president being faithful to his oath of office to defend the Constitution or by it being struck down in the courts as being unconstitutional. The president is abusing his powers of office in this case by his refusal to respect the rights of conscience, bordering upon turning himself into a tyrannical dictator through the tentacles of his administration. We need to be sober to the fact that we need to be careful for whom we vote in elections because democracy only protects us from such situations when we do not elect those who are willing to ignore God’s moral law in regards to that which is intrinsically evil. By my saying this, notice that I do not tell you for whom to vote, but I give you a key principle by which wisely and prudently to vote as you apply this to deciding who is worthy to be elected to a public office.

This coming Monday and Tuesday is the winter clergy conference for archdiocesan priests. Hence I will be at the conference at St. Benedict Center in Schuyler Nebraska from Monday afternoon until Tuesday afternoon. Because of this, there will not be a Mass on Tuesday morning but only a communion service at eight o'clock led by Deacon Dave Christensen. Have a grace-filled and blessed week.

God Bless, Fr.  Gutowski
