From The Pastor's Desk - November 10, 2011

Dear Parishioners,

It is my pleasure to announce that our parish has exceeded its goal for the annual Archbishop's Appeal! On behalf of Archbishop Lucas I thank all who contributed to the appeal and all who promised to exercise stewardship in other various ways such as through prayer and service. Since this annual appeal began eleven years ago as a means to meet the financial needs of the Archdiocese for the operation of its various ministries, St. Joseph Parish has each year exceeded its goal.  I thank, too, the stewardship that you exercise towards the parish from your financial support to helping with various parish activities and needs, as well as for the prayers that you offer daily not only for your needs but for the Church, the parish, and the world. May our Lord bless all of you for all the ways that you give of your time, talent, and treasure for the glory of God and the good of His people. I hope down the road, once the renovation is finished and when there is time to plan it, to have a stewardship celebration of some sort to thank all who give of themselves so generously to the parish.

While speaking of the topic of stewardship, please keep in your prayers Bob and Patty Kennedy and Mike and Kathy Dineen who due to family considerations have had to register in new parishes thus departing from St. Joseph. I thank these couples for all of the ways that  gave so generously to the parish in so many ways  over the years. These four will be sorely missed. Bob was most recently our Parish Council President and Mike had served in the past as a parish trustee.

Also, I want to congratulate on behalf of the parish a couple of individuals who not only give of themselves in service to our parish, but to the community as well, having been recognized recently with some special honors. First, Dorothy Foged was honored as one of eight Worthy Women of Distinction in Sarpy County, especially for her service of leading the fundraising drive for the building of the Springfield Public Library and its most recent addition. Second, Dr. Julie Masters was honored by the New Cassel Retirement Center with their conferral of the Lempka Leadership Award upon her for her service and advocacy for the elderly as the chairperson of the Gerontology Department at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.  We praise God for the gifts that you exercise in service to our parish and the wider community.

Finally, let us congratulate Coach Adam Kuhl, one of our parishioners, and his Platteview High School Trojans football team, of which several of our parish youth are members, for making it to the semi-finals of the C-1 playoffs. Let us pray for their continued success and safety as they aim to be the state champions in C-1.

God bless and have a wonderful week.

Fr. Gutowski
