From The Pastor's Desk - June 5, 2011

Dear Parishioners,
Traditionally in the life of the Church June is the month of focusing upon devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This is because the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart usually occurs in June since it is nineteen days after the celebration of Pentecost Sunday. Because of how late Easter was, the celebration of the Solemnity honoring the Sacred Heart of Jesus falls on July 1 this year. In the 1600s our Lord appeared to Saint Margaret Mary asking for a feast in honor of his Sacred Heart and for devotion to His Sacred Heart, such as the practice of honoring His Heart on the first Fridays of the month by going to Confession a week before or after the first Friday to receive His mercy that flows from His Heart in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and to receive Holy Communion on the first Friday of the month. Jesus made the promise that whoever does this for nine first Fridays will know the depths of his mercy and if they remain faithful to Him throughout their lives will receive the grace to die in the state of grace. Hence I encourage you to do this devotion of the nine First Fridays if you have never done so. Also, it is good to have a picture of the Sacred Heart which is hung in one’s house in a place of honor, so I encourage this as well.

There is an enthronement ceremony of the picture that a priest can do for a household, which I am always happy to do and can be done anytime of the year.

Have a wonderful week.

God bless,
Fr. Gutowski
