From The Pastor's Desk - May 1, 2011

Dear Parishioners,

Today we congratulate our twelve second graders who make their First Holy Communion at a special 11:00 A.M. Mass. We rejoice that they will experience for the first time the most personal union with Jesus possible on this earth as they receive his Body and Blood in the Holy Eucharist. Let this be an occasion for all of us to renew our gratitude for the great gift of the Real Presence of Jesus in the sacrament of the Eucharist.

Also, today, on this Second Sunday of Easter we celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday, which officially was designated as such by Pope John Paul II in 2000. Due to the Gospel reading this Sunday in which we hear of the institution of the sacrament of Reconciliation and due to the private revelations made to Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska by Our Lord in the 1930’s in which He asked her to spread devotion to His Divine Mercy, this Feast of Divine Mercy came to be established. See the insert in today’s bulletin that provides information about devotion to the Divine Mercy of our Lord.

Further, on this first day of May we begin the celebration of the Month of Mary. At the end of the 9:00 A.M. Mass today we honor our Blessed Mother by celebrating our May Crowning ceremony. During May, before the weekend Masses, members of our Knights of Columbus Council will be leading the praying of the Holy Rosary. As a sign of love for our Blessed Lady, please join in the praying of the Rosary before Mass.

Finally, May 1st is traditionally the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker. Of course, with it falling on Sunday this year, the prayers for this feast are not used at Mass. Nonetheless, especially with St. Joseph being the patron of our parish, we honor St. Joseph today by praying a prayer for the blessing of our labor. We also pray for all those who are in need of employment that they will find the work that they need through the intercession of St. Joseph.

Hence, lots of wonderful spiritual observances packed into this Sunday!

Have a blessed and wonderful week.
God bless, Fr. Gutowski
