From The Pastor's Desk - February 11, 2011

Dear Parishioners,

This past week on Friday, February 11, the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes was celebrated. During his pontificate, Pope John Paul II declared this feast to be World Day for the Sick, a day on which to especially pray for the sick. As you might know, since our Lady appeared to St. Bernadette in Lourdes in 1858, persons have made pilgrimage to Lourdes to pray and bathe in the waters that well up from a spring that our Lady pointed out to St. Bernadette, waters which for many have brought healing of their illnesses. Hence, the shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes in France has become associated with being a place where the sick our brought for healing through the intercession of our Blessed Mother. As we remember this care that Our Lady has for the sick, let us pray for the sick for their healing through her intercession. Each week please note in our bulletin our parishioners who are sick and include them in your daily prayers. And let me or Sharon know of any parishioners who need to be added as well as letting us know about any family or friends who are sick for whom you ask our parish to pray. Know that I keep all of the sick in my daily prayers.

If ever a family member becomes seriously ill, is going to have surgery, or is hospitalized, please let me know. I know that hospitals are no longer allowed to contact parishes to let them know who has been admitted unless a patient explicitly requests such. I am happy to make hospital visitations. I want to be sure that anyone who is seriously ill has the opportunity to receive the sacraments, especially the Sacrament of the Sick, and, if needed, the Sacrament of Reconciliation. If you know that you are going in for surgery, please request of me to administer these sacraments to you, if you so desire. Also, if ever there is an emergency, such as someone being taken to Emergency at a hospital or who is in immediate danger of death, please contact me so that I can get to the person as soon as is possible. Call the rectory at 253-2889, or, if you cannot reach me or I am too far away from the parish because of my other duties, such as those with the Catholic Faith Formation Office, call Sharon Van Tassel at 689-1708 and she will work on getting a hold of me (These telephone numbers are on the front of our weekly parish bulletin). If all else fails, and there is not time to wait for me to be tracked down, please try neighboring parishes to see if a priest is available such as at St. Columbkille in Papillion and St. Patrick in Gretna or another nearby parish.

God bless and have a great week.
Fr. Gutowski
