From the Pastor's Desk - January 16, 2010

Dear Parishioners,

In this week's bulletin is a two-sided insert. On one side is the financial breakdown for the building project that was announced last weekend. Ken Patry, chair of our parish finance council, formulated this for us. As you can see we already have $600,000 that can be used for the project. To cover the remaining amount, Ken, as he said last weekend, has determined that if we do a five-year pledge campaign, then we would need parishioners to contribute for each of five years an annual amount that is 58% of their annual  contributions. For example, if someone contributes $1000 per year, for each of five years an extra contribution of $580 would be pledged for a total five-year pledge of $2,900. It is important, then, to return the survey that was handed out last weekend so that we know whether or not this is possible for most of you to give this extra 58% for each of five years. As we said last weekend, if this is not possible for most, then we will have to do a more extended drive where we collect whatever persons are able to give over a longer period of time. As I said last weekend, the renovation of the church is about 15% of the total cost of construction, so we can and will go ahead with this now, using funds we already have on hand.

To do the church renovation portion now, even if it is determined that we are not yet able to do the classroom addition, I believe makes sense because we can go ahead and take advantage of favorable construction costs in the current market, saving us in the long-run. On the other side of the insert is a color image of the church renovation. The black and white one that was given out last week was of poor quality, so I wanted you to see this one. Please keep in mind that this is an image of the general, overall concept that I and the parish council have settled on, but details still need to be worked out, taking into consideration, the input that we received last weekend and any comments made on the surveys.

Also, please be aware that every detail is not in this picture. Such things as the current Blessed Mother and St. Joseph statues are not shown but will obviously be included in the detailed plan once it is developed and exactly what the various pieces of sanctuary furniture will actually look like, such as the altar, baptismal font, etc., is yet to be determined. The goal is to make choices that create a beautiful and inspiring church environment. Thus far in the few surveys received back and in comments spoken to me, persons' responses have been very positive. So, I thank you for returning your surveys and for the input that you communicate to me and the parish council members.

Have a wonderful and blessed week.

God bless,
Fr. Gutowski
